Jaipur girl Swati Ubroi is taking her designs to Bridal Asia 2012 in October. Here’s a sneak peek, especially for After Hrs

Divya Gurwara, CEO of Bridal Asia and entrepreneur Amrita Singh hosted a tea party on Friday at Hyatt Regency for a select gathering to present the bridal collection by Jaipur-designer Swati Ubroi beautifully offset by jewellery designs from Payal Gupta.

Among the glitterati, who adorned their creations, was our own ace trap shooter Shagun Chowdhary, freshly home from the London Olympics. Emphasising that Bridal Asia has been consistent as a platform for designers to showcase, unveil and launch their bridal line, Divya says, “Every edition of Bridal Asia is unique as it launches new names and it is exciting to track the career graph of our old regulars, who have made their debut in couture wear with Bridal Asia.”

Swati designs are for a well-travelled modern woman who looks at Indian traditional craft for her festive and bridal requirements, somebody who likes to blend the traditional with a cosmopolitan sophisticated lifestyle. The effort is to revive the oldest local crafts and techniques, contemporised with the right colours and cuts.

For Bridal Asia 2012, she says, her silhouettes include, “peshwas, farshi kalidars, saris and lehengas teamed with glam versions of Nehru jackets and kediyu with gota-patti, gota appliqué, tara kaam and chord work embellishment. A discreet use of colours, embroidery, silhouettes and a super luxurious feel completes the mood of this collection,” she informs.

Bridal Asia 2012 is Asia’s biggest exposition for all bridal finery, apparel and products and is celebrating 14 years this year. The event is scheduled from October 21-23, at The Ashoka, New Delhi.
